This page has been created and designed to serve as a central repository for student athletes and parents to receive information and updates.

Tournament - Dates, Events, Times, Format, and Map
Dates: The tournament is scheduled for Thursday, 8/29/24 through Saturday, 8/31/24. The Thursday and Friday will consist of "Pool Play" and Saturday will be the tournament. The tournament directors have advised they are anticipating approximately 40 teams and they will be running with AM and PM waves. Each team is guaranteed eight matches, unlimited subs, and a best of three set format (25-25-15). Teams will be seeded based on a completed questionnaire submitted by the coach.
Tournament - Entry Fee and Social Events (Ice Cream Social and Luau)
The tournament entry fee is $700 and it will include an Ice Cream Social and team building activity on Wednesday, 8/28/24, 7:00 PM on the Kamehameha campus. A Hawaiian-style luau banquet will be provided on the evening of Saturday, 8/31/24. The tournament directors have advised this luau will be free for players and coaches and as of 5/15/24, they are working on securing a larger location with the possibility of allowing family members to attend at an individual cost.
Tournament - Funding and Estimated Costs
In January 2024, it was estimated that the individual cost per player would be $2,000 and students will be leading fundraising campaigns to cover the tournament costs. In May 2024, the coaches conducted a virtual meeting with parents and advised them the fundraising efforts did not generate funding as estimated and individual families would need to provide $1,500 to help cover approximately $12K for the purchase plane tickets (for 15 players, three coaches, and one RHS school administrator), $6.5K for hotels, $1K for transportation, $750 for uniforms, $700 for tournament registration, food, etc. Parents were advised excess unused funds would be used to cover regular season expenses such as equipment, tournament fees, team building events, etc.

Food

Some events are planned for tournament participation (i.e., Saturday night Luau at Kamehameha Schools for athletes and coaches) and the coaches may add additional events pending time and funding availability.
Lodging
Student parents who will be attending the tournament will need to provide transportation and lodging for their child. Students who do not have a parent attending the tournament will be able to stay with another family or reside with the coaching team and families with the permission of the student's family.
The coaches have elected to reduce their lodging cost from hotels to a AirBnb/VRBO. The reduced cost will free up funding to purchase other items for the team (i.e., shirts, backpacks, bonding events, etc.) and/or cover expenses for the season (tournament fees, shirts, bonding events, etc.).
Release of Students in Hawaii
All students who have parents traveling with the team will be released to their family upon arrival in Kona, Hawaii. Students who do not have parents present at the time of arrival will continue to travel with the coaches or authorized family only if the parent(s) have completed the district volunteer/chaperone and driving certifications.
